21:47, May 23, 2012
Israeli police arrested ten people on Tuesday morning on suspicion that they belong to an international organ trafficking ring. They are also suspected of extortion, tax fraud, and inflicting grievous bodily harm. Among the suspects is one doctor.

The Israeli National Fraud Unit and the Tax Authority began a joint undercover investigation into the ring several months ago. In 2009, several countries contacted Israel to request an investigation into organ trafficking on its territory after the discovery of an organ trafficking victim in Kosovo who implicated Israeli citizens. European authorities investigating the Kosovo “Medicus” organ trafficking case provided the names of Israeli suspects they uncovered.

According to the Israeli police, the ten traffickers recruited poor day workers in Israel, and sent them to Kosovo and Azerbaijan where their kidneys were removed. The victims were promised US$10,000 per kidney, but the police believe few received any payment. Organ recipients paid between US$100,000 and US$150,000 per kidney. The traffickers did not inform the “donors” about the risks of surgery and kidney removal, and failed to provide them with medical care after the surgery.

In Israel, the victims were mostly young Turkish men, while the ring also recruited poor people from Russia, Moldova and Kazakhstan. Israeli police believe the transplant operations may have also been performed in an undisclosed third country in Asia. The investigation is still underway.

The suspects are scheduled to appear at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate court in Jerusalem on Wednesday morning.

A group of six world powers is due to hold fresh talks with Iran about its controversial nuclear programme, BBC reports. The talks are being held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, at Iran's request.

They come a day after the UN's nuclear watchdog held talks with Iran to try to gain better access to the regime's nuclear installations.

Tehran insists its uranium enrichment programme is for peaceful purposes, but the West fears Iran is developing a nuclear weapon.

The five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the US, Britain, France, Russia and China - plus Germany will try to persuade Iranian officials to scale back their nuclear programme.

Security is tight, with about 15,000 Iraqi police and troops protecting the venue inside Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone.Previous talks in Istanbul in mid-April managed to find enough common ground to arrange a further meeting in Baghdad.
This news is brought to you by HyeMedia | Armenian News where you can read balanced Armenian News from Armenia & the Diaspora as reported by various news agencies and freelance journalists

Harutyunyan said party’s leader goes to parliament and has never stated about waiving his mandate.

Sociologist Aharon Adibekyan calls on all the political forces to enter the coalition and work together for the benefit of Armenia.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) would better forget the offence it voiced in the address of the ruling coalition and enter the coalition.

“It would be good if Heritage too forms the coalition. But the Armenian National Congress is self-isolated and would hardly share power with “criminal state”. They are radical opposition,” the sociologist said.

Aharon Adibekyan expressed conviction that the Prosperous Armenia party (PAP) will form a coalition as it managed to gather many votes thanks to its opposition stance and being in the coalition as well.

“If it [PAP] pulls out from the coalition it will lose its votes. If it remains, it will keep them. In case all the forces enter the coalition the political electorate will be clearly outlined, each person will know his/her work,” Adibekyan said.

The sociologist said the opposition dreams today of extremely bad condition in the country which will cause a big wave of complaint and bring them to power. “It is one of the worst manifestations of misanthropy – addressed to the own people,” Adibekyan said.
This news is brought to you by HyeMedia | Armenian News where you can read balanced Armenian News from Armenia & the Diaspora as reported by various news agencies and freelance journalists
