Protest, A common Scene in Yerevan
Many citizens gather in front of the Government building every Thursday and this Thursday was no exception.
The depositors of the “Armenia” bank were demanding the money that they had deposited 15 years ago.
“We are demanding the money that we have worked hard for,” said the people. Nearly 280 depositors want to receive a total amount of 143,000 US dollars.
The depositors said that they had saved the money for hard times and haven’t been able to retrieve that money for decades.
Some of the money has been returned with help from the Central Bank, but most of the depositors are still struggling. “We’re here to complain so they can help us get that money back,” said Mrs. Anahit.
These people have appealed to all the corresponding bodies, but they have no faith in the government because this is not the first time that they are gathering there.
Among others holding a protest were the parents of soldiers who were killed at Armenian military units. They were demanding a fair trial and punishment.
On the other side of the building were the residents of the sale zone who were demanding compensation for their former homes that were located in the Kentron district. They have been gathering in front of different state buildings for the past 6 years, but haven’t received any clear response yet.
