In light of international sanctions imposed on Iran as well as speculations about a possible preemptive strike on the Islamic Republic, it is in the national interests of Armenia not to allow a war in the region. It is this interest that might explain a boost in Iranian-Armenian relations.
While a number of Iranian-Armenian economic projects, such as ambitious plans for a railway construction project, construction of large processing enterprises and others, appear to be stalling, political cooperation is becoming more and more tangible.

Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan’s June 20th interview to “Interfax” has brought about indignation among Azeri media, Armenian Defense Ministry reported.
“The reason is clear. Seyran Ohanyan spoke about Armenia-CSTO, Armenia-NATO and Armenia-Russia military-political and military-technical cooperation, about everything that troubles the authorities of the neighbor country. In his interview Minister Ohanyan spoke about the advantages in the field of military production Armenia enjoys as a CSTO member.
Seyran Ohanyan criticized the policy of the neighbor country targeted at disturbing the military balance in the region and arms race. He noted also that the bellicose statements of Azerbiajan pose a real threat to regional stability and peace. Read more... (422 words)

The International Court of Justice is due to rule on the legality of Kosovo’s unilateral secession from Serbia. Judges will issue a non-binding ruling on Serbia’s claim that Kosovo’s declaration of independence was a violation of its territorial integrity.
If the ICJ sides with Serbia, Kosovo could be pushed into negotiating a settlement. The opposite could see more countries recognising its independence.
Earlier, the US reaffirmed its “full support” for an independent Kosovo. The commander of the Nato-led peacekeeping force meanwhile said its 10,000 troops were ready for any violence sparked by the ruling.
“On the field we don’t have indications about nervousness, about any upcoming threat,” BBC News quoted German General Markus Bentler of the Kosovo Protection force as saying. Read more... (373 words)

Member of Republican Party of Armenia parliamentary group Shirak Torosyan said that the Georgian leadership has launched a new policy of forcing Armenians to leave Javakhk.
A new program has been approved for Armenian schools of Javakhk. According to the program, the number of lessons of the Armenian language and literature has been cut by two times, Torosyan told a press conference in Yerevan.
According to him, the Georgian authorities aim to eradicate the Armenian language in Javakhk, what is a rough violation of national minorities’ rights.
