Number of Armenian Monuments Decreasing in Turkey Every Year

“What is being carried out in Nakhijevan now was accomplished by a state program in Turkey in the 1940s, 50s, 60s, and now the policy is underway as well,” Head of “Study of Armenian Architecture” NGO Republic of Armenia branch Samvel Karapetyan told Panorama.am reporter.

According to him, 80% of the Armenian monuments in Turkey have been demolished and the number is still decreasing every year.

On the one hand, Turkey restored Akhtamar and demonstrated a performance to the whole world, while at the same time another Ilu Church, only 5 km away from Akhtamar, was destroyed, S. Karapetyan highlighted.

“This is a performance for the world, at least we know this,” S. Karapetyan said.

Now the NGO is implementing a program: 50 volumes, telling about the monuments of the Western Armenia, are to be published in English, Russian and Turkish at the threshold of the 100th Years of the Armenian Genocide.

This is such a lie. Take a look at

    and also at

    http://www.zaman.com.tr/haber.do?haberno=910765&title=iste-turk-hosgorusu

for churches being repaired. What is Armenia doing to the mosques? Or maybe Armenia does not even know how many mosques there are in Armenia.

  2. ferhat says:

Huseyin, they are right. turks have destroyed between 3,000-15,000 Armenian churches, crosses and monuments. You have destroyed all and any real or even imaginary buildings that are remotely related to the Armenians.
And now, you turned on us Kurds. Killing us almost every day.
You Turks have absolutely no honor. Your honor is stabbing on the backs of other peoples.
And how dare you question small Armenia about the number of mosques there?
    You Turks have no shame.
You have murdered about 25 million peoples worldwide since 1000AD.
To conclude, shut up and look at your dirty history, before you accuse Armenians.

  3. Kapan says:

I think we must also look at ourself, both sides destroyed cultural monuments. Yes I am Armenian but I am not going to be brainwashed to hate the Turks. You honestly think 300.000 Azeris who lived in Armenia SSR did not have any cultural monuments? Where are they today? We must wake up Armenia!

Los Angeles to host an event in commemoration of Shahan Natalie’s 125th anniversary

March 18, 2010

In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Shahan Natalie’s birth, the Shahan Natalie Family Foundation invites the public to attend a tribute to the living memory of the internationally known intrepid Armenian thinker, writer, orator, and activist.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2010, in the Los Angeles Public Library’s Mark Taper Auditorium. Preceding the afternoon program, Sylva Natalie Manoogian will lead a Hye (Armenian) Treasures tour of the Central Library’s resources, Asbarez.com reported.

Born in the village of Husenik, province of Kharberd, Historic Armenia, Shahan Natalie (born Hagop Der Hagopian) was orphaned at the age of 11, during the 1895 Hamidian massacres of the Armenians. He was sent to Istanbul and was accepted by the famed Berberian Academy, where his literary career and community activism were launched.

British Justice Minister Tells Erdogan the Armenian Genocide Bill Will Not Pass

March 17, 2010

British Justice Minister Jack Straw on Tuesday assured Turkey’s Prime Minister that Parliament would not pass a resolution recognizing the Ottoman-era killings of Armenians as genocide, CNNTürk reported.

“The chance of this becoming law is zero. I can assure everyone on this issue, Straw said.

After the Swedish parliament adopted an Armenian genocide resolution last week, many have turned their attention to the British Parliament, where a draft will be submitted to a House of Commons committee after a second reading on April 30.

If it is approved, an Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day will be established in the country.

“The English government and the opposition do not support this draft,” Straw said.

Davutoglu Speaks Out Against Deporting Armenians Living in Turkey Without Status

March 16, 2010

To deport citizens of Armenia living illegally in Turkey means to give a “winning card” to those countries who come out against Turkey, said Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu during a closed-door meeting of the foreign affairs committee of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, responding to opposition People’s Republican Party MP Canan Arıtman’s earlier statements which suggested deporting all Armenian citizens.

“Such a step would become a winning card in the hands of those countries who are against us. In addition, all of the world’s countries’ papers will publish articles about deported Armenians. A nationalist image would form, [and] Turkey will be in a more difficult situation,” said Davutoglu.

Iran Frees Armenian Aid Worker Silva Harotonian

March 15, 2010

Aid worker Silva Harotonian, who has been in an Iranian prison for more than twenty months, has been released, reports The Armenian Reporter.

In a March 10 statement, her employer, the U.S.-funded International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), thanked “the Government of Armenia for their engagement in securing Silva’s release.” Details of that engagement have not been made public.

Harotonian, an Iranian citizen, was arrested on June 26, 2008, while on a business trip to Tehran for IREX’s Maternal and Child Health Education and Exchange Program (MCHEEP). A Yerevan-based administrative officer for the program, launched in 2007, she was the only IREX staff member working in Iran at the time.
