Turkey and Azerbaijan are resisting and hampering US State Dept. interests. The goal of the US State Dept, is to pass energy pipelines (oil & gas) across Armenia to access Central Asian-Caspian basin oil and gas reserves. Since August 2008, the West deems Georgia unstable and unreliable to invest in future pipelines. These pipelines will start from Central Europe, across Turkey and Armenia, on to Azerbaijan and Central Asia (Turkmenistan & Kazakhstan). Armenia is the only viable access route. Azerbaijan has no other viable route to export its oil & gas to Europe except through Armenia. So, Azerbaijan can not export to the West with closed borders. Germany and France are bluntly telling Turkey NO European Membership (applying pressure on Turkey to cooperate and open its borders with Armenia).
